Performance
The system is capable of delivering 300,000* emails per hour (2Kb size in Fast mode)
using a 1.6 GHz P4 machine with 1Gb of memory on a 5 Mbps bandwidth connection. In
Personalized mode, delivery rate is 30,000 emails per hour.
If you plan to send very large mailings, keep in mind that bounces, tracking,
and un-subscription requests still need to be processed by the server. The effective
workload becomes 3-4 million emails per day.
Another factor to consider is the source of your email lists. If a list
contains unsolicited emails, you run the risk of your connection being shut down by
your provider and the IP address of the server being blacklisted. The best way to
avoid this is to make sure that your lists are qualified lists (Opt-ins) where users
have asked to receive this type of email.
Technology
The following server configurations are both required and recommended to obtain optimal performance for binary licensing and software leasing.
The server will require a permanent connection to the Internet on a static IP address, to properly handle un-subscriptions, bounces, and campaign tracking.
Software
The following open source tools should be installed and configured on your RedHat Linux ES5 server to do high performance mailings: Qmail, MySQL and PHP.
* Note: Actual performance is dependent on the hardware used,
Internet connection, and quality of the list.
